When season rolls around towards the end of the year, I start seeing a lot of questions about farmers’ markets and where to find them. This warms my heart for so many reasons.

First, YES! Support local when you travel. Shopping at a farmers’ market also helps travelers stay healthy. And spending time at a farmers market in Florida (or anywhere, for that matter) exposes visitors to the local vibe, customs, and specialties.

1. Winter Garden Farmers’ Market, Winter Garden

The Winter Garden Farmers’ Market regularly lands on “best of” lists. It was named Best of the Best Farmers Market in 2021 by Orlando Family Magazine and America’s Favorite Farmers Market. This Florida farmers market held every Saturday morning offers a huge range of vendors, including produce, baked goods, artisan soaps, honey, and dairy products. In 2019, the Winter Garden Farmers’ Market stopped using single use bags and cups, encouraging patrons to bring their own reusable bags and totes.

2. Detwiler’s Farm Market, Sarasota

What happens when you mix a farmer’s market and grocery store? You get Detwiler’s Farm Market. Detwiler’s lands on this list of best farmers markets in Florida because of their humble farmers market beginnings and continuing dedication to providing local, in-season produce to their loyal customer base. The Sanibel Island Farmers Market takes place every Sunday at City Hall and features more than forty vendors. Farmers, shoppers, and artisans from around the Sanibel-Captiva area look forward to Sundays when they mingle, laugh, eat, and shop. 4. Saturday Morning Market, St. Pete

More than 150 vendors spanning a variety of specialties – produce, jewelry, glass art, pasta, honey, bread, coffee, and so much more. These are the usual things that make a farmers market special. St. Petersburg’s Saturday Morning Market strives to be that and more. With a mission to be the “heart of St. Petersburg”, the market brings together a warm and inviting community spirit. Since 2002, the Saturday Morning Market has been that heart and spirit. It has been recognized time and again as the best farmer’s market in Tampa, one of Florida’s best farmers markets, and one of the top twenty in the country.

5. West Palm Beach GreenMarket

The West Palm Beach GreenMarket was the brain child of former mayor, Nancy Graham, who envisioned a Europoean-style Saturday morning market where residents to could gather to see friends and farmers could sell their products. The first market opened in 1995 and has grown in success and size since. Today, the 90 vendors are chosen through a competitive annual jury process, and the market occupies a desirable waterfront location filled with plazas and shade trees. The West Palm Beach Greenmarket’s success has earned it USA Today’s 10Best! Reader’s Choice Best Farmer’s Market in America.

Tallahassee’s historic downtown setting drips with Southern hospitality and beauty, especially every Saturday morning from March through November. For twenty years, the Downtown Marketplace has been the place to gather, to catch up, to pick the week’s produce. And maybe a few other items. Tallahassee’s Saturday market brings the vibrant colors of fresh fruit and vegetables downtown, alongside such market staples as fresh flowers, bread, eggs, native plants, and fun hands-on activities. Artists display their artwork, local musicians infuse the air with their song, and sometimes a poet or author quietly reads aloud from their works.

7. Grand Lagoon Waterfront Farmers’ Market, Panama City Beach

This waterfront market in Panama City Beach features all of the regular things you’d expect – fruit, vegetables, flowers, bread, and other artisanal products. And, of course, there’s fresh seafood. Located in the parking lot of Capt. Anderson’s Restaurant, this farmer’s market offers beautiful views and is a great way to start your weekend. Stop in for fresh eats for the day on your way to St. Andrew’s State Park for a day at the beach. Or just stock up on veggies and seafood for the week.

8. St. Augustine Amphitheatre Farmers’ Market

The farmers’ market at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre sets up under the oaks and in the parking lot. Moss hanging from the trees dances gracefully in an ocean breeze. Vendors at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre Farmers’ Market peruse offerings from produce tents and handmade arts and crafts. Live entertainment punctuates the air. This market is a green market and patrons are encouraged to bring their own bags. For farmers markets in Florida, this one claims one of the most picturesque spots near historic St. Augustine and beside Anastasia State Park.

Ft. Pierce’s reputation as a laid-back town in a beautiful seaside setting. The downtown farmers’ market is located at the city marina alongside the Indian River. 11. Downtown Dunedin Market

The Downtown Dunedin Market features local food, crafts, and live music, bringing together artisans and customers from the local community. Under the shade of the oak trees in Pioneer Park, vendors set up their tents to sell fresh produce, plants, baked goods, coffee, local crafts, and fresh beverages. The market is a highlight for residents who often do much of their produce and gift shopping there. Tourists, too, find the market a fun thing to do in Dunedin when visiting the town. Customers can be seen all over town on Fridays and Saturdays with totes filled with their purchases. And the live music fills the air around the park.

The Palafox Market in downtown Pensacola draws thousands oThe Palafox Market in downtown Pensacola draws thousands of customers each Saturday. Open rain or shine, vendors bring their hand-crafted products or self-grown plants and produce. Like other farmers’ markets, shopping at the Palafox Market, it supports local vendors. Southern hospitality abounds from vendors who sell live plants, fruits and vegetables, meat and cheese, baked goods, flowers, fine art, soaps, collectibles, and much more. Palafox has been the centerpiece of downtown Pensacola life on Saturday mornings since 2008.

Bring the family, the dog, and the lounge chairs! The Stuart Green Market located in the Stuart City Hall parking lot is one of the few farmers’ markets on this list which opens on Sundays. Every week the space becomes a magnet for farmers and artisans selling their wares and an equally powerful magnet for their customers. The beautiful location invites everyone to mingle and linger, enjoy the waterfront views, and pick up a few items to take home. At this large market, visitors also find local authors selling their books, glass artisans, fresh dishes from award-winning chefs, and entertainment. It’s an ideal place to spend a few hours on a Wednesday.

One of three award-winning farmers’ markets in the Cape, the Cape Coral Farmers’ Market is in the heart of Cape Coral, surrounded by great restaurants and shops which merit a lunch stop after shopping at the market. Tents shade vendors and products from the sun as visitors meander up and down the long aisles set up on the street and parking lot. Find the typical produce as well as freshly baked items, prepared dishes for later in the day, soaps, flowers, honey and spices, and handcrafted items perfect for special gifts. Come down any Saturday or visit the sister market, Surfside Sunshine Market, on Tuesdays.
